Scott G. Hofer

Greetings,

My name is Scott Gardner Hofer. I was born in Morgantown in 1970 and graduated from Morgantown Highschool in 1988. Most of the time in between was spent moving all over the east coast with my family. I graduated from West Virginia University (WVU) in 1996 with a major in Accounting, and received my Masters in Software Engineering in December 2005. I've been working in the computer field since 1994 and now work as a DBA at the WVHTF. I currently reside in Fairmont, WV with my better half, Deb, and four cats; Velvet, Natalie, Thora, and Kara.

Most people know me through the SCA as Valgardr Gunnarsson, a 10th century Viking from Dublin. I've been in the SCA for about 18 years. I joined when the local shire, Misty Highlands, was still in it's incipiency, and the local Kingdom, Aethelmearc, was just being discussed as a possible principality. The Shire of Misty Highlands has been my home for most of the last 18 years and I'm proud to be part of the longest living SCA group in the Morgantown area.

In the SCA I've had many hobbies and have held many offices. I've done heavy fighting, fencing, archery, thrown weapons, weaving, garb making, and other occasional arts. I've held the offices of Seneschal, Deputy Seneschal, MoAS, Scout Commander (Shire), Archery Marshal, Chronicler, Exchequer, Regional Exchequer, Knight Marshal, Aethelmearc Kingdom Webminister, Kingdom A&S webminister, Aecademy webminister, and Order of the Fleur webminister. I helped found the student club ARS (Antiquarian Recreation Society) and was the staff advisor for the student club MACES (Medieval Arts and Combat Education Society). I've autocratted four events: Aethelmearc Aecademy (Summer 2001), Vikings in Miklagard (Fall 2002), Defender's of Sherwood 5 (Summer 2005), and Crown Tourney (Spring 2006). I was also co-autocrat for Defenders of Sherwood VI (Summer 2006) and Aethelmearc Aecademy (June 23, 2007). I'm best known as a Viking weaver and was inducted into the order of the Laurel (for Weaving) at Pennsic 35 (August 15th, 2006). I am squired to Count Sir Jehan de la Marche and am head of a household known as The Valkyries.
