Hints for neat selvedges

Always have a solid colored border (2 or 4 cards each side) that is independent of the weaving pattern.

Use a weft thread that is the same color as your border.

Turn the border cards in one direction only, independent of the pattern weave. Reverse only when the warp gets tight from twisting. Continue in that direction until the warp gets tight from twisting, then reverse again.

When passing the weft, leave a little loop of thread on the side you come from. Turn the cards, beat, then gently tug the end of the thread to close the loop. Make sure not to pull the sides in too much.

Use a ruler and check the width of your piece frequently. Smaller corrections done more frequently are less noticeable.
