Weaving 2001

Here are the pieces I've done in 2001.

This is a piece of trim I made for a lady's Viking Apron Dress. I made so much I ended up adding some of it to a tunic also. Click here to see tunic or closeup. The pattern for it can be found here at the Loomy Bin. You will need to download Gudrun's software to view it.

This was the first of several attempts to make some silk trim for a friend. The silk thread was a super-fine 140/2 and was colored using country classic dyes. Fifty two cards were used to create a final width of approximately 1cm. Just after threading the cards I dropped the entire deck and the warp became a tangled mess. I was able to weave a little over a foot before the crossed threads began snapping.

The second attempt on this trim, also in silk, never made it to the loom. The skiens used in dyeing became so tangled when trying to wind up for warping that I finally gave up after many hours of efforts.

This is the third attempt at this piece, this time using a 16/2 pre-dyed wool. The warping process was quick and used only 24 cards. The wool held up for a little while but in the end was not strong enough for the tension of warping. Unlike cotton threads, which snap, the wool fibers simply pulled apart. I had similar results with a purple shade of this wool put to warp on my horizontal loom.

This is the shoulder strap I made for a lady's apron dress . I tried making this on a backstrap last year and kept messing up. I'm now using an inkle for my travelling pieces and this time I'm quite happy with the results. This piece is woven in 8/2 unmercerized cotton and 28 cards. The final width is about 1" and the length is about 2 yards.

This is the final product of the silk trim I started earlier this year. This piece was woven using 60/2 pre-dyed silk thread. This stuff is truly a dream to work with. This piece was done with 40 cards for a final width of approximate 5/8".
