Weaving 2005

This is part of a brocade fillet I made for my lady. The pattern is based on a common Viking era pattern known as Birka 22. The warp and primary weft are done in 60/2 silk, the brocade wefts(2) are done using Kreinik #7 gold thread. This piece is 29 cards wide for a woven width of approximately 1/2". The brocaded portion was 18" long. It took about 30 hours to complete the entire fillet. Documentation for this piece is here.

Below is the start of a favor I was making for my Lady. This piece had to be cut off after an early morning weaving accident that couldn't be fixed. I've already got the loom warped to start over but I liked this design so much I wanted to put it online as is. I'll replace this picture when the final piece is done. The warp and weft are done in 60/2 silk. This piece is 62 cards wide for a woven width of approximately 1 1/8". It was woven at a rate of approximately 1 inch every 90 minutes. The borders are an original pattern I came up with several years ago. The pattern is available here and an earlier sample of the border alone can be seen here. The lettering pattern is from Master Guntram von Wolkenstein and can be found here.

This piece is a tablet-woven double-face silk bookmark. It was done for the Kingdom A&S Championship. The theme was Aethelmearc Pride. The full verse is "In Glorias Aethelmearc". The warp and weft are done in 60/2 silk. This piece is 62 cards wide for a woven width of approximately 1 1/8". It was woven at a rate of approximately 1 inch/hour. The lettering pattern is from Master Guntram von Wolkenstein and can be found here.

This is a brocade trim I wove to put on a viking hat. The hat can be seen below. The warp and primary weft are done in 60/2 silk, the brocade wefts(2) are done using Kreinik #7 gold thread. This piece is 25 cards wide for a woven width of approximately ¼". It took about 40 hours to complete enough trim to circle the hat. The documentation for this piece tied for the Barhus prize at Ice Dragon 2005. It is available here in both word format and html format (Conversion to HTML by Lady Juliana).

Below is another piece of silk trim done for the Valkyrie dresses. I've completed about 3 yards and have another 6 yards to go. I'm much happier with this warp up than last year's. After doing the brocade I've learned to be more patient and it shows. This piece is done using 60/2 silk thread and uses 32 cards for a width of 3/8 inch. The pattern is from Master Guntram von Wolkenstein and can be found here.
